Most of the photos in our albums are taken with the built-in camera in our Garmin Oregon 550t hiking GPS. Although the 550t is a great hiking GPS, the built-in camera doesn’t produce the same quality photos as a dedicated camera. On the plus side, it’s great not to have to carry a separate camera.
Today we took a short hike on the Huntsville Land Trust property located on Monte Sano Mountain. We started at the pavilion and headed down the Old RR Bed trail. About half way into the hike instead of taking the Old RR Bed trail back to the trail head, we headed south on Alms House trail for about 100 yards, then took Fagan Springs Trail, until we intersected Wagon Trail. We went north on Wagon Trail, then Old RR Bed trail and then took Tool Gate trail back to the trail head. We hiked 2.9 miles in about 1 1/2 hours; a very leisurely pace. While none of the trail is rugged, the Old RR Bed trail contains many limestone rocks as you would expect on a Railroad Bed.

Today we hiked in Sawanee. We started at the cross and then came back to where we started. We hiked 5.8 miles in a little over 3 hours.

This part was a little challenging.

Today we hiked the Land Trust Loop on the Huntsville Land Trust property located on Monte Sano Mountain. We hiked 5.3 miles in about 3 hours. The loop consists of three different trails. From the pavilion head south on the Bluff Line Trail. At the Water Line Trail head east. At the end of the Water Line Trail visit the Three Caves Quarry (this is a good place to take a cool break). Then head north on the Alms House Trail back to the trail head. The Water Line Trail is very strenuous and steep with lots of loose rock and dirt (see photos in the album). Don’t attempt it unless you are in good shape.

This is part of the Water Line Trail - Steep and rugged.
Today we took a great hike down to Machine Falls near Tullahoma, Tennessee. We started at the water tower and then looped back to the tower on a different trail. Our hike was 3 miles in under 2 hours. The waterfall was beautiful. If I’m at a waterfall, I’m usually compelled to climb to the top; I almost made it but Kathy strongly suggested I stop, so I reluctantly complied.
